Praia da Cova is a small river beach on the Miño, tucked beneath the vineyard-covered slopes of Ribeira Sacra in the municipality of O Saviñao. It offers a very different experience from Galicia’s Atlantic beaches: sheltered water, steep green hills and a peaceful inland setting.
The approach is part of the experience. A narrow, steep road winds down through forest and vineyards toward the river. Parking is limited, especially on busy summer days, so it is worth planning your arrival carefully.
What to expect
The beach has a mixture of sandy and grassy areas beside the water. The original BeautifulGalicia visit describes calm conditions and a small eatery nearby, although services and swimming conditions can change. Never assume river water is safe for swimming: check local signs, water conditions and any restrictions on the day.
Seasonal transport has operated to the beach in summer, but routes and timetables should be verified before relying on them. If driving, take care on the descent and avoid obstructing access roads when parking.
Make a day of it
Praia da Cova is close to the celebrated Cabo do Mundo meander, making it an attractive stop on a wider journey through the Miño valley. Discover more scenery in our Ribeira Sacra road trip or explore the region’s villages.

Plan Your Visit
Stay near the Miño valley. If you want more time for the river beach, vineyards and viewpoints, look for accommodation in Ribeira Sacra. Driving is often useful for linking these spread-out stops.
